Seize the Opportunity

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

Peter saw his opportunity and addressed the crowd. “People of Israel,” he said, “what is so surprising about this? And why stare at us as though we had made this man walk by our own power or godliness? For it is the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—the God of all our ancestors—who has brought glory to his servant Jesus by doing this. This is the same Jesus whom you handed over and rejected before Pilate, despite Pilate’s decision to release him. You rejected this holy, righteous one and instead demanded the release of a murderer. You killed the author of life, but God raised him from the dead. And we are witnesses of this fact! “Through faith in the name of Jesus, this man was healed—and you know how crippled he was before. Faith in Jesus’ name has healed him before your very eyes.”

Acts of the Apostles 3:12-16 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

The healing of the crippled man and his excitement evidently created a stir. People gathered to see what is going on. “Peter saw his opportunity and addressed the crowd.”

I like that line— “Peter saw his opportunity.” How many times do we miss the opportunity God gives us to share the good news of God’s love and miracle-working power? Perhaps, we are so busy with other things that we miss what God wants to do in and through us.

Peter was quick to declare the miracle was not a result of their “own power or godliness.” He did not take credit for what God was doing. He declared the miracle was to bring glory to Jesus.

True miracles will lift up Jesus, not a person!

Miracles that are done by God will draw us to Jesus. We will want to know more about Jesus. We will be drawn to be students of God’s Word. We will seek Jesus, not the miracles.

A lot of people seem to want to chase miracles instead of chasing after the Miracle Worker—Jesus!

TODAY’S PRAYER

Holy Spirit, please help me see the opportunities You give me to release Your presence and power into a hurting life. Help me always to point people to Jesus. Help me to desire more of Jesus in my own life.
