Love Your Neighbor

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

Jesus replied, “The most important commandment is this: ‘Listen, O Israel! The LORD our God is the one and only LORD. And you must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.’ The second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ No other commandment is greater than these.”

Mark 12:29-31 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

The Sadducees questioned Jesus about which commandment was the greatest. Scholars believe there was a big debate among the religious leaders over this topic—so much so that there were divisions over their answers. But Jesus stepped into the argument and gave a clear answer. Love God and love your neighbor.

Jesus indicated our love for God could not be disconnected from our love for our neighbor. If we love God, we will love our neighbor. Loving our neighbor is actually the physical expression of loving God.

I can’t visit God when He is sick—but I can visit my neighbor. I can’t pay God’s electric bill when He’s broke—but I can pay my neighbor’s bill.

Loving my neighbor is a practical expression of loving God!

TODAY’S PRAYER

Heavenly Father, please help me to love my neighbor as an act of loving You. Holy Spirit, please help me to see ways I can help with the needs of those around me.
