Familiarity

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

The angel replied, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the baby to be born will be holy, and he will be called the Son of God. What’s more, your relative Elizabeth has become pregnant in her old age! People used to say she was barren, but she has conceived a son and is now in her sixth month. For the word of God will never fail.”

Luke 1:35-37 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

Sometimes, often, familiarity breeds contempt. Familiarity causes us to forget the beauty in something or someone.

In marriage, people forget why they first fell in love. We forget how blessed we are with the things God has given us—a place to live, clothes to wear, and food to eat.

It is possible even to read the Christmas story and forget the miraculous fulfillment of God’s promises through the lives of Mary and Joseph – two people chosen by God to participate in His wondrous plan to bring the Messiah into the world.

Mary had no idea how much her world was going to change when an angel told her she would have a child. There is no way she could have known the joy—and sorrow—that was ahead. But she surrendered to God’s plan without fully understanding—just like we have to do in our lives.

Everything was done to fulfill God’s plan. “For the word of God will never fail.”

God’s promises are true. When we chose to partner with God, we can trust Him to fulfill His Word in and through our lives.
