The spies went up into the hill country and stayed there three days. The men who were chasing them searched everywhere along the road, but they finally returned without success. Then the two spies came down from the hill country, crossed the Jordan River, and reported to Joshua all that had happened to them. “The Lord has given us the whole land,” they said, “for all the people in the land are terrified of us.”
Joshua 2:22-24 NLT
Forty years after Moses sent twelve spies into the land, Joshua sends two. I’m confident Joshua remembered that of the original twelve, only two came back with a positive report—that was himself and Caleb.
The two spies didn’t just scope out the land; they actually went into the city of Jericho and mixed with some of the people to see what the overall feeling was. They took a great risk and had to hide out for three days before returning to Joshua.
Their report was not one of fear but of faith. They reported, “The Lord has given us the whole land.” They were ready to move forward because they had faith.
Their faith did not mean they would not have battles to fight and struggles to overcome. It just meant they believed the promises of God that He would give them the land.
God does not promise us life will be a cakewalk. In fact, Jesus told His followers that in this life we would have trouble. But then Jesus added, “But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33 NIV)
What obstacle are you facing today? Do you believe that God can overcome that problem? Then perhaps it is time to declare the promise of God over your life.
Holy Spirit, I believe that You are able to do more than I can ask or imagine. I believe You are working even when I don’t see you. I accept Your promises in my life today. I confess that I am more than a conqueror through Jesus Christ.
