Take control of what I say, O Lord, and guard my lips.
Psalm 141:3 NLT
Solomon, one of the wisest men to ever live, wrote that the power of life and death is in our tongue (Proverbs 18:21). Most of us have experienced those times when life or death was released through our tongues. Let’s be honest, we usually remember the times when we spoke something stupid, and it resulted in bad things happening.
Because of the power of our tongue, David prayed and asked God to guard his lips. What a great prayer. To ask God to guard what I say.
When it comes to releasing faith, the tongue is so crucial. We can speak doubt and fear and kill our faith and the faith of others. Or we can speak positive words of life and build our faith. What do you want to build in your life—death or life?
I must daily pray for the Holy Spirit to guard my lips. I want to speak the truth, but the truth in love. I want to speak life, not death. I want to speak words of faith, not words of doubt.
Holy Spirit, please guard my lips. Let the words of my mouth be in alignment with You. Help me today to speak life, so my faith and the faith of others is built.
