All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by his great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation,
1 Peter 1:3 NLT
Wrapping up a year, and moving into a new year gives us great expectations. As followers of Christ, our expectation is not that the government will solve the problems and suddenly make us all rich and healthy—that will never happen.
Our expectation is because we have been freed from our past failures and sin. We have been born again through the death and resurrection of Jesus.
The biggest struggle for our future is that we drag our past into our future. Only through Jesus can we be free from our past. We can have the past forgiven and be free from the control of the past.
Through confession and repentance, Jesus forgives our past—freeing us from the control and consequences of the past. This is based on God’s great mercy—not my perfection or deserving it.
With my past forgiven, I can move forward with great expectations.
