Forget All That

“But forget all that— it is nothing compared to what I am going to do. For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.”

Isaiah 43:18-19 NLT

God is speaking through the prophet Isaiah to the nation of Israel. He reminds them of what He has done for them in the past and then gives them these instructions— “Forget all that.”

Regardless of the miracles God has done in our past, He has something better for our future. In His words, “it is nothing compared to what I am going to do.”

God always something new up His sleeve for His children. God wants to do something new in and through our lives. Are we willing to release our hold on the past to experience the new things of the future?

I remember when my grandchildren began to take their first steps. The videos of those first steps went to everyone in the family—and several outside the family. There were those awkward moments of the transition from crawling to walking. Those moments when you could tell they were unsure if they wanted to let go of that hand or table and actually venture into the world without a supporting hand to hold them.

But then came the step—one foot reached out, then another. And they were walking. Everyone applauded. Within a few days, they never crawled again. Walking was a so much better way to get around. Within weeks they were exploring everywhere. A new world was open because they dared to let go of the past comfort of crawling and enter the age of walking.

Moving forward is always full of the unknown. It requires a new level of faith and courage. The older we get, the less we normally are willing to risk accepting change. But in God’s kingdom, the best is always in front of us, inviting us to be open to change.

God wants to create some new paths in our lives. He wants to bring rivers into the wasteland. Are we willing to step into something new to experience something new?

Let’s ask boldly for the courage to see God work in and through us in brand new ways. Once we experience God’s new work, we will never want to go back to crawling.

Holy Spirit, please give me the courage to let go of the past and move with confidence into the future You have for me. Help me today to see Your new work in and through me. Give me boldness in my prayers to believe for greater things from You.
