Accepting Clarity

When people do not accept divine guidance, they run wild. But whoever obeys the law is joyful.

Proverbs 29:18 NLT

I grew up with this passage from the King James Version that says, “Where there is no vision the people perish.” The context indicates the “vision” is God’s divine direction. So, in the New Living Translation, they changed the wording to reflect the context better.

As I move through a time of prayer and fasting, my heart is to receive fresh guidance from God. I believe one of the words God gave for me to focus on was the word CLARITY. I want God to give us clarity as a church and clarity as individuals.

If we do not accept God’s clarity, we become a law unto ourselves, and the result is always destructive. I believe this is why God has given us His written Word. The written Word of God should never be “reinterpreted” through the lens of modern society. We should seek to understand what God meant when He had those words put onto paper and apply that truth to today.

There are always those wishing to throw out the parts of God’s Word that they don’t like or that contradict their desires and actions. We should never become victims of taking passages out of context or without the full counsel of the Word.

I have discovered God gives me more clarity when I predetermine to obey. When my heart is willing to do whatever God directs, He is free to clarify direction. If I am waiting to hear the direction before I decide to obey the direction, I will not hear the direction.

Clarity comes to those who have decided to obey the direction, whatever it is.

Holy Spirit, correct my heart so that I have chosen obedience. Help me to listen with a willing ear.
