Plan for Growth
So we have not stopped praying for you since we first heard about you. We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding. Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and your lives will produce every kind of good fruit. All the while, you will grow as you learn to know God better and better.
Colossians 1:9-10 NLT
I love to pause and think a few minutes about this prayer. It is a prayer asking God to give “complete knowledge of his will” and give “spiritual wisdom and understanding.” When we pray this prayer, we will live a life that honors God, produces fruit, and we will be continually growing to know God better.
God wants us to ask for knowledge, wisdom, and understanding. We can ask Him to help us be constantly growing. A constantly growing life is one that honors God and produces fruit.
I pause today to ask myself, ‘How did I grow last year? How did I grow last month? How about last week?”
Growth does not happen automatically. We must be intentional about investing in personal growth. We must spend time reading the Bible, talking to God in prayer, listening to God in meditation, and interacting with other believers in a small group. We must carve out time in our schedule to read books, listen to podcasts, take some classes, and/or attend some seminars.
What are you going to do this week that will produce growth in your life? What about this month and this year? What areas need growth?
Holy Spirit, I want to grow. I want to have a life that is producing fruit. Please show me how I can be growing every day. Give me knowledge of Your will along with wisdom and understanding. Help me to think the way You think.
