The Key to a Positive Attitude

Shout with joy to the Lord, all the earth! Worship the Lord with gladness. Come before him, singing with joy. Acknowledge that the Lord is God! He made us, and we are his. We are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good. His unfailing love continues forever, and his faithfulness continues to each generation.

Psalm 100:1-5 NLT

Having an attitude of gratitude to God is crucial in having a successful year. This psalm is unique in that it is only five verses, does not ponder any of the deeply personal struggles as many of the psalms do, and focuses totally on praising God.

We know that our attitude will determine our altitude. You can never rise higher than your attitude. Having a positive attitude will not ensure success, but having a negative attitude will guarantee failure. So, what is the key to having this kind of positive attitude?

I believe the answer is in the middle of the psalm. Verse three tells us, “Acknowledge that the Lord is God!” One translation says, “Know that the Lord is God!”

Taking time to get to know Who God is and that He is in charge is crucial in being victorious. What we know will determine what we do. The more time I spend getting to know God, the more confidence I will have in my prayer life. The more confidence I have in my prayer life, the more I will begin to believe God for His favor and blessing on my life.

My prayers will never be effective if I don’t believe God is in charge. Jesus taught us to begin our prayers with, “Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Your name.” Every time I go to prayer, I take time to acknowledge Who God is. He is my righteousness, my sanctification, my peace, my present God, my healer, my provider, my banner, and my shepherd.

Be sure to spend time today thinking about Who God is. Thank God for being god. Declare Who He is—it will remind you of what He can do.

Heavenly Father, I declare today that You are God. You have created all things. We were made by You and for You. You are in charge of all things. Today, I place my life entirely in Your hands to work in me and through me.
