The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned.
Isaiah 9:2 NLT
In the New Testament, Matthew writes this prophetic word of the prophet Isaiah as being fulfilled in the coming of Jesus to earth. He let his audience—and us—know that when God sent Jesus into the world, He was sending light.
It is amazing that we can walk in darkness and not realize how dark it is. We think we are doing good until someone turns on the light, and we realize how much we have missed.
Recently, Cindy and I were on a trip and getting ready to leave out hotel room. I thought we had packed everything. We had turned on the lights in the room, but it was not very bright. I opened the curtains covering the window and saw two items that we had not packed. The bright sunlight had given us fresh revelation.
This is what happens when we invite Jesus to walk into our lives. His light reveals things that we have not seen. It’s not that we rejected His truth or ignored it—we just had not been exposed to the light. We were in darkness in that area, and we didn’t know it.
This is why it is crucial to expose ourselves daily to God’s light through the written Word of God. The written Word brings the light of Jesus into our world. It is the only way to expose our selfishness to the truth.
Holy Spirit, please help me to daily expose my heart to the light of Your truth. Help me to be a student of the Word. Help me to be consistent to daily get into Your Word.
