Shepherd of All
I have other sheep, too, that are not in this sheepfold. I must bring them also. They will listen to my voice, and there will be one flock with one shepherd.
John 10:16 NLT
We need to understand that Jesus was talking to a Jewish audience. To state there were “other sheep” was almost considered heresy. The Jews felt they had a monopoly on Father God. They had a special covenant and relationship that in their minds was exclusive.
But God never intended to have an exclusive relationship with Israel. Even in the covenant with Abraham, God promised to bless him and make of him a great nation that would bless the entire world. It was never to be exclusive.
People have always struggled with feeling that we have an exclusive claim on the promises of God. Whether it was one team praying for victory in a ballgame or one nation at war with another, we tend to think God owes us a positive answer to our prayers.
Father God is not interested in exclusive relationships. He is a God of the Jews and the Gentiles, the black, white, and brown. God is equally concerned for ALL people.
If we value one group of people over another, we are prejudice and not like Father God!
Holy Spirit, please help me to see all people as You do. Forgive my prejudice and show me how I can change. Help me to be a uniter, not a divider.
