So Abraham placed the wood for the burnt offering on Isaac’s shoulders, while he himself carried the fire and the knife. As the two of them walked on together, Isaac turned to Abraham and said, “Father?”
“Yes, my son?” Abraham replied.
“We have the fire and the wood,” the boy said, “but where is the sheep for the burnt offering?”
“God will provide a sheep for the burnt offering, my son,” Abraham answered. And they both walked on together.”
Genesis 22:6-8 NLT
I am intrigued by the inner turmoil that must have been raging inside of Abraham. He was heading up the mountain to sacrifice his son. He had the fire, and Isaac was carrying the wood. Isaac noticed there was no sacrifice. Isaac asked his father, “Where is the sacrifice?”
Abraham’s heart must have skipped a beat at that moment. He knew something Isaac didn’t know and couldn’t understand. He chose to simply speak in faith even though he did not fully understand what was going to happen.
Abraham declared, “The Lord will provide.”
There are moments in life when we don’t have all the answers. We think we have some, but we know we don’t have them all. We know that others around us don’t understand, and we can’t explain it fully. So, what do we do? We speak the truth of God’s promises. We don’t try to explain the unexplainable.
God is my Provider. He is my Healer. He is my Savior. He is my Restorer. He is my Creator. He is my Sustainer. I will declare Who God is when my present circumstances are confusing and/or difficult.
Heavenly Father, I thank You today that You are working even when I don’t see it or understand it. You are working in me and for me today. Thanks for the privilege to know that You are in charge.
