Learning to Trust

November 12, 2020

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence. They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit.

Jeremiah 17:7-8 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

Trusting in the Lord is a major key to victory in our lives. We have to trust that God loves us, that God wants the best for us, and that His way is best for us. Without this foundation of trust, our lives will never experience the full victory that God wants to release in us and through us.

I remember times of failure in my life when I doubted God’s love for me. I thought God’s love was based on my performance. I had a limited view of God’s grace. Through the years, He has taught me His love never changes based on my performance.

Perhaps the harder part was believing that God wanted the best for me. There was this voice of the enemy trying to deceive me into thinking God was holding out on me. That same voice convinced Adam and Eve to eat the fruit from the forbidden tree with the lie God was holding out on them. Many today think trusting and obeying God will block us from having some fun or enjoying life. Satan told that same lie to Adam and Eve in the garden.

As a parent, I want the best for my children. God’s a better parent than I am. He wants the best for me. And the best for me is always God’s way.

Sometimes, we think we can’t accomplish God’s path for our lives because we don’t have the resources, training, or background. I remember the words of Hudson Taylor, the great missionary, who said: “Depend on it. God’s work done in God’s way will never lack God’s supply. He is too wise a God to frustrate His purposes for lack of funds, and He can just as easily supply them ahead of time as afterward, and He much prefers doing so.”

We can trust that:

1. God loves us.

2. He wants the best for us.

3. His way is the best for us.

4. He will supply what we need.

5. We will produce fruit, even in times of drought.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Holy Spirit, please help me to trust You. Help me to see Your plans for my life and trust You as I partner with You. I want to see Your fruit grow in my life.
