Our Past and Our Future
“For the Lord has driven out great and powerful nations for you, and no one has yet been able to defeat you. Each one of you will put to flight a thousand of the enemy, for the Lord your God fights for you, just as he has promised. So be very careful to love the Lord your God.”
Joshua 23:9-11 NLT
Joshua makes this closing speech to Israel. He knows it about time for him to die. He reminds them of God’s work on their behalf and gives them a great challenge— “So be very careful to love the Lord your God.”
Our love for God will drive us to obey His Word. We do not obey out of fear or guilt; we learn to trust and obey God because we have developed a love relationship with Him.
When we recognize that everything we have is because of God, it opens us up to a new level of relationship. Joshua wanted them to know God gave them their past victories, and God would fight for them in the future as well.
It is important to have those moments in our lives where we pause to say thanks for what God has done and, by faith, thank Him for what He is going to do. The future is bright because God is in our future.
Holy Spirit, please help me remember today the miracles You have worked in my life. Thank You for being with me, protecting in, forgiving me, healing me, and providing for me. Thanks for the privilege of knowing You will always be with me.
