Victory Includes Pain
For Jesus is the one referred to in the Scriptures, where it says, ‘The stone that you builders rejected has now become the cornerstone.’ There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.”
Acts of the Apostles 4:11-12 NLT
Rejection on the magnitude that Jesus experienced is hard to imagine. Everyone He loved and cared about ran from Him in the time of His greatest need. He was alone. Beaten. Mocked. Treated unfairly. Hung on a cross for a painful, public, slow death.
And Jesus did all of that for you and me. There was and is no other way for humanity to have a relationship with God except through the death and resurrection of Jesus. In the garden before His arrest, Jesus knew what was coming and asked the Father if there was another option. But Jesus surrendered to the plan that included the pain.
Sometimes our path to victory includes pain. We work hard to avoid pain, but some things are only achieved through pain.
Being physically healthy is not achieved without the pain of exercise and self-discipline about what we eat. Being mentally healthy requires the careful discipline of our thought life and input into our minds. Being relationally healthy requires the pain of honesty, sacrifice, and humility. Being spiritually healthy requires the pain of daily connecting with God through His Word and prayer.
There is no other way for some victories than through pain. Accept the pain to enjoy the victory.
Holy Spirit, help me to accept Your will in my life. Help me to accept the pain of what I need to do to get to where You want me. Thank You, Jesus, for Your example.
