Living a Spirit-filled LIfe

Meanwhile, Peter traveled from place to place, and he came down to visit the believers in the town of Lydda. There he met a man named Aeneas, who had been paralyzed and bedridden for eight years. Peter said to him, “Aeneas, Jesus Christ heals you! Get up, and roll up your sleeping mat!” And he was healed instantly. Then the whole population of Lydda and Sharon saw Aeneas walking around, and they turned to the Lord.

Acts of the Apostles 9:32-35 NLT

Peter became a traveling evangelist as he traveled to encourage the believers and reach the lost. During his travels, he came to the city of Lydda. There was a man who has been paralyzed for eight years. Peter spoke a simple word to the man and the man was instantly healed.

I noticed several things about this story. First, Peter did not have to pray and fast before he was used to perform this miracle. Peter was walking and living in the fullness of Spirit. The Holy Spirit was able to direct Peter because Peter was living a Spirit-filled life.

Second, Peter did not ask Jesus to heal the man. Peter spoke the word of authority over the man. Peter did not pray like I have prayed, “Jesus, would You please heal this man.” Peter knew that healing was already purchased at the cross by the stripes on the back of Jesus. Therefore, Peter needed only apply what Jesus had purchased.

Third, the miracle brought salvation to many. The miracle was not just for Aeneas. The miracle was to confirm the message that Peter was preaching—the message that Jesus was the Son of God Who died and rose again to pay the price for our sins.

I believe God wants to do the miraculous, but not to promote a person but to draw people to Jesus. Jesus is the One Who should receive all praise and glory. The supernatural occurs only because He defeated Satan on the cross.

Holy Spirit, I want to be in tune with You as I walk through my day. I want to see the supernatural occurring in my life daily. Help me to understand the authority You have given to us as Spirit-filled believers.
