Why He Came
For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.
John 3:16 NLT
The prophets of old had declared that God would have a Son born of a virgin. In the New Testament, we learn the Holy Spirit came upon the Virgin Mary, and she conceived a son, Jesus. He was the son of Mary and the Son of God—fully human and fully God.
Only God could redeem humanity from our sins. Only God could pay the price for the sins of humanity. That is why God had to come to us—we couldn’t come to Him. Our sins had separated from God. We couldn’t go to Him, so He came to us.
Jesus lived a life without sin so that He could die for the sins of others. His death and resurrection proved that He was the Son of God. He is Lord. He is our Savior and Redeemer. There is no other way to be right with God than through the acceptance of Jesus as our Lord and Savior.
At Christmas, we pause to remember why He came. He came to die so we could live.
Holy Spirit, please help me to remember the purpose of Jesus coming to earth. Help me to live daily with an awareness of Your love, sacrifice, and mercy for me.
