Early the next morning the army of Judah went out into the wilderness of Tekoa. On the way Jehoshaphat stopped and said, “Listen to me, all you people of Judah and Jerusalem! Believe in the Lord your God, and you will be able to stand firm. Believe in his prophets, and you will succeed.” After consulting the people, the king appointed singers to walk ahead of the army, singing to the Lord and praising him for his holy splendor. This is what they sang: “Give thanks to the Lord; his faithful love endures forever!”
2 Chronicles 20:20-21 NLT
Imagine marching into battle. Imagine what thoughts would be rolling through your head. I imagine I would be thinking about the enemy I was about to face. How big are they? How strong are they? What kind of weapons do they have?
As Jehoshaphat got the army ready for battle, he chose to change their perspective intentionally. Instead of focusing on the enemy, he challenged them to focus on God. He knew that perspective was crucial to any victory. If we don’t have the right perspective, we can never win the battle.
King Jehoshaphat even instructed the singers to lead the march into battle, singing praises to the Lord. He knew that singing is a way to calm the nerves and focus our attention on God.
We will face battles daily. We make choices about our perspective daily. We can focus on the problems, or we can focus on the problem-solver.
We need to remind ourselves God loves us and is fighting for us. He wants us to succeed. He wants us to win this battle. Let’s get the right perspective.
Holy Spirit, help me today to realize You have already declared that I am more than a conqueror. You live inside of me, and greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world. I already have the victory through Him Who loved me and gave Himself for me.
