As long as I live, while I have breath from God, my lips will speak no evil, and my tongue will speak no lies.
Job 27:3-4 NLT
Take a moment and reflect on Job’s words that were written in the middle of his pain, loss, and suffering. Life was not good. Instead of blaming God or others, Job chose to control his tongue.
Today we have many people who can’t control their tongues. Unfortunately, many choose to use social media to vent their anger and divisive thoughts. They choose to attack people or groups of people with talk that is hateful and harmful.
The Bible tells us that our words flow out of our hearts. Whether those words or spoken or written, they flow out of our hearts. When our hearts are full of anger, jealously, racism, pride, materialism, greed, or other sinful thoughts, our words will be destructive.
Faith-filled words come from a faith-filled heart. If we want to win the war we are fighting with Satan, we can’t give in to words full of evil and lies. We must speak only truth and only what is full of faith.
If our hearts are full of love and faith, then our words will reflect what is in our hearts.
We might need to ask God to help us check our hearts. In these difficult times, it is easy to allow Satan to sneak into our hearts and out our mouths.
Holy Spirit, I ask You to show me where my heart needs to change. I want to be a person of faith. I want that faith to flow out of a heart that is cleansed by the Word of God.
